Waste Management

Waste Management

The institute follows the principle of “reduce, reuse, recycle” and works towards a clean, green and pollution-free campus. Waste generated in classrooms, laboratories, the canteen and during college programmes is separated at source, collected regularly and disposed of safely.

Waste segregation

Separate, labelled dustbins for biodegradable (wet) and non-biodegradable (dry) waste are placed at key points across the campus, including classrooms, corridors and the canteen. After every programme or event, the waste produced is sorted into wet and dry bins. Students are encouraged to avoid plastic bags and to keep the campus clean.

Waste collection and composting

Biodegradable and vegetative waste is collected regularly. Part of it is collected by the Gram Panchayat, Boradi, and processed in an indoor composter, while compost pits on the campus receive the larger share of biodegradable waste. The compost produced returns nutrients to the soil of the campus gardens.

Laboratory and liquid waste

Experiments that generate harmful fumes are carried out only inside the fume hood, and no radioactive substances are used in pharmacy practicals. A well-constructed drainage system carries liquid waste and water from wash basins to closed collection tanks. The collected waste water is treated and then reused to water the lawns and the medicinal garden.

E-waste: reuse first

Older computers and electronic equipment that are no longer needed by the institute are donated to the rural schools run by the Sanstha, so that they continue to be used instead of becoming waste.

Awareness and cleanliness

Cleanliness directives are followed strictly on campus, and students take part in cleanliness and awareness drives such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and tree plantation. These habits help build a responsible, environment-friendly outlook in future pharmacists.
